PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide in which a core end position is easily and speedily recognized. SOLUTION: An optical waveguide 1 has cores 32<SB>a</SB>and 32<SB>b</SB>having refractive indexes slightly lower than that of a quartz substrate 31 and a clad 33 having the same refractive index as the substrate 31, formed on the substrate 31 and has auxiliary plates 34<SB>i</SB>and 34<SB>o</SB>attached to both ends of the surface of the clad 33, and marks 2<SB>ia</SB>to 2<SB>id</SB>and 2<SB>oa</SB>to 2<SB>od</SB>for recognizing positions of core ends 32<SB>ia</SB>, 32<SB>ib</SB>, 32<SB>oa</SB>and 32<SB>ob</SB>are formed between the clad 33 and the auxiliary plates 34<SB>i</SB>and 34<SB>o</SB>in the vicinity of core ends 32<SB>ia</SB>, 32<SB>ib</SB>, 32<SB>oa</SB>and 32<SB>ob</SB>.
