PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera with a self-timer photographing function by which just the suitable length of time is set until photographing is actually performed after operating a self-timer. SOLUTION: The camera 10 has the self-timer 20 and an AF function. When a user depresses a photographing switch 36 in a self-timer photographing mode, a CPU 22 controls an AF motor 68, so that focusing is performed. When AF operation is completed, the CPU 22 detects the focal position information of a lens 14, and calculates a distance to an object based on the information, so that the operation time of the self-timer 20 is set short when the distance is short and the operation time is set long when the distance is long. Also, the camera 10 has an adjusting dial 34 by which timer operation time is properly adjusted by a user himself, so that setting such as 'entirely long' or 'entirely short' may be attained.
