PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an initial threading method capable of minimizing bending of thread at the time of initial threading in a thread winder, and decreasing a mistake in the initial threading. SOLUTION: In this initial threading method, an empty bobbin is installed to each of two bobbin holders, and the first and second bobbin holders are respectively positioned at a winding position wherein a contacting roller is provided and a standby position. While the thread Y is guided by a thread jump guide G<SB>1</SB>provided in an upstream side of the contacting roller 3, the thread is engaged with a thread guide 62 for initial threading. By making a traveling direction of the thread and a rotating direction of the empty bobbin in the winding position side oppose to each other, the thread is contacted with the empty bobbin in the winding position side to be installed. The thread guide for initial threading is disposed in an area between a line C contacting with the inner side of the outer peripheral surface of the empty bobbin in the winding position side and passing the thread jump guide, and a line D contacting with the inside of the inner side of the outer peripheral surface of the empty bobbin in the standby position side and passing the thread jump guide.
