PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a catalyst composition as a polymerization catalyst for producing polymers with high cis-1,4-structure content of the microstructure and narrow molecular weight distribution. SOLUTION: The catalyst composition for polymerizing a conjugated diene comprises (A) a metallocene-type complex of general formula (I): (C<SB>5</SB>R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>R<SP>4</SP>R<SP>5</SP>)<SB>a</SB>MX<SB>b</SB>.L<SB>c</SB>[wherein, M is a rare earth metal atom; C<SB>5</SB>R<SP>1</SP>R<SP>2</SP>R<SP>3</SP>R<SP>4</SP>R<SP>5</SP>is a substituted cyclopentadienyl group; R<SP>1</SP>to R<SP>5</SP>are each a hydrocarbon group (except the case that R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP>, R<SP>4</SP>and R<SP>5</SP>are each methyl); X is H, a halogen atom, alkoxido group, thiolato group, amido group or 1-20C hydrocarbon group; L is a Lewis base compound; (a) is an integer of 1, 2 or 3; b is an integer of 0, 1 or 2; and c is an integer of 0, 1 or 2] and (B) an ionic compound composed of a non-coordinating anion and cation and/or aluminoxane.
