The method involves generating a pressure wave that produces a signal in the switching element to protect terminal points of switching strips, switching panels, etc. The transducer (9) is subjected to a test signal for monitoring and checking operational safety. An Independent claim is also included for a device for detecting signals, esp. a pressure wave switch.
