PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an original reader equipped with a contact type image sensor which faces both glass where an original conveyed by an automatic conveying mechanism passes and glass where the original is horizontally mounted always at a fixed intervals and smoothly move between both of the pieces of glass. SOLUTION: A hybrid machine 1 has a guide rail 50 extended between the first glass 36a and the second glass provided to a scanner 30, the reverse surface sides off the pieces of glass are connected by the guide rail 50. Therefore, when a character surface of an original supplied onto the first glass by an automatic feeder is read and when a character surface of the original mounted on the second glass in a horizontal state is read, the interval between the contact type image sensor 45 and the character surface of the document can be held always constant to securely read the character surface of the original and when a method of supplying the document changes, the contact type image sensor 45 smoothly moves between both of the pieces of glass.
