PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface treated steel sheet which can embody post- coating corrosion resistance and coating film adhesion properties equivalent to those of the surface treated steel sheets each formed with a chemical conversion treated film by the conventional chromate treatment, and a method for treating the same. SOLUTION: The method for treating the surface treated steel sheet comprises forming the chemical conversion treated film by immersing the steel sheet into a chemical conversion treating solution consisting of a molybdic acid compound and phosphoric acid as essential components, in which the molar ratio (No/P) of the molybdenum and phosphorus in the chemical conversion treating solution is≥12 to≤60.
