PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Mg compound-carrying type Ziegler catalyst having excellent persistence of catalytic activities, and high activities, and as a result, capable of providing a polymer having extremely high stereoregularity in high yield. SOLUTION: The catalyst forΑ-olefin polymerization comprising (A) a solid catalytic component containing magnesium, titanium and a halogen, and (B) an organoaluminium compound as constituents satisfies the relation of formula (1):τ<SB>1/2</SB>≥200 min (wherein,τ<SB>1/2</SB>is a half time of a polymerization rate (R<SB>p</SB>) measured in heptane solvent at 75°C under 0.5 MPa propylene partial pressure).
