PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for heating a steel material and its program by which the temperature of the steel material having temperature distribution can be uniformed by heating without applying excessive load to a control unit for performing calculation of a setting power value in an induction heating device. SOLUTION: Target heating temperatures in the respective induction heating devices (1) to the front end portion and the rear end portion of the steel material (2) are obtained, and to the front end portion and the rear end portion of the steel material, the setting power is controlled corresponding to the shifting of the steel material by calculating the setting power supplied to the respective induction heating device based on the target heating temperatures. To the intermediate portion of the steel material, corrected target heating temperatures in the front end portion and the rear end portion are calculated and the power for intermediate portion is controlled corresponding to the shifting of the steel material by calculating the power for intermediate portion based on the target heating temperature.
