PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical axis windmill wherein a blade and a shaft are protected from large force. SOLUTION: The vertical shaft 10 is rotatably raised on a support 20. A pair of blades 30 are divided into a plurality of blade elements 31, which are coupled together with hinges 5. An upper end of the uppermost blade element is hinged on an upper end of the vertical shaft, and a lower end of the lowermost blade element is hinged on a lower end of the vertical shaft.
