PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical fiber evaluation method and an evaluation device capable of surely evaluating an abnormal condition of an optical fiber from an OTDR waveform. SOLUTION: This optical fiber evaluation device 1 is provided with a waveform measurement part 2 measuring the OTDR waveform to the optical fiber F as an evaluation object and a waveform evaluation part 3 evaluating an abnormal condition of the optical fiber by using a measured waveform. The waveform evaluation part 3 is constructed of a computing part 4 and a determination part 5. In the computing part 4, a deviation waveform between a waveform and an approximate line is computed by using an approximate line computed in an approximate line computing part 41 in a deviation waveform computing part 42, and in a differential value computing part 43, a differential value in the deviation waveform is computed. In the determination part 5, a differential value determination part 51 determines whether the computed deviation differential value satisfies an allowance condition or not for determining an abnormal condition of the optical fiber.
