PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical curtain type safety sensor incapable of being easily modeled by a field worker, easy in the optical axis alignment of a light projection/detection unit, and not requiring time in the adjustment of installation or maintenance. SOLUTION: The light projection/detection unit E comprising floodlight projectors 1a-Na and photodetectors 1b-Nb and a reflecting plate M for reflecting the lights emitted from the floodlight projectors 1a-Na to allow them to be incident on the photodetectors 1b-Nb are arranged so as to be opposed to each other at a predetermined interval. The projection and detection of light between light projection/detection unit E and the reflecting plate M is scanned to measure the spaced-apart distance from the light projection/detection unit E, and the reflecting plate M is measured to monitor the presence of the penetration into the detection area set between the light projection/detection unit E and the reflecting plate M.
