<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly inform a user of the occurrence of a paper shortage/paper jamming and the end of copying operation/printing operation. <P>SOLUTION: A copying mode is set (ST1), a copying condition is set (ST2), and then, when a start key is depressed, copying operation attended with no notification processing is performed (ST12). When an one-operation key is depressed before depressing the start key (ST4), a destination is specified (ST5) by referring to an one-operation table and copying operation is started (ST6). When paper shortage or paper jamming occurs before the end of the copying operation (ST8, ST9), the copying operation is stopped (ST10) and the specified destination is informed of the stop of copying operation (ST11).
