摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface plasmon element whose outgoing light is of high accuracy and to provide a substance inspection apparatus for inspecting a chemical substance with satisfactory sensitivity. SOLUTION: The substance inspection apparatus is provided with a substrate 110, a revolving surface 111 revolving on the substrate 110, a metal film 120 formed on the revolving surface 111, and a light transmission member 140. The member 140 comprises an opposite surface 142 facing the film 120, an incident part 143 on which light is incident, and an outgoing part 144 in which light is outgoing to the outside. The light which is incident on the incident part so as to be guided to the opposite surface excites a surface plasmon revolving on the surface of the metal film along the revolving surface. The surface plasmon interferes with the light guided to the opposite surface. A state of the light outgoing from the outgoing part is changed according to a state of the surface plasmon.
