The invention relates to the use of Mycobacterium W for treating HIV infection. According to the invention, the intradermal injection of Mycobacterium W is effective in preventing and treating AIDS or AIDS-associated complex. The use of Mycobacterium W improves the immunity, increases CD4 cell count, and reduces the fever and the diarrhea even in the absence of the specific antiretroviral therapy.
