Process for the preparation of colophony (colophonium, rosin) from fossil resins

A continuous process for the preparation of amber rosin or copal rosin, which is carried out in a screw extruder. The short-term temperature exposure which occurs during extrusion, coupled with the simultaneous separation of the gaseous and liquid elimination products, results in the formation of a particularly high-quality rosin which is free from extraneous substances and is particularly suitable for the production of coating materials. The reaction takes place at 300-450@C. A further increase in the quality of the rosin can be achieved by the addition of amber oil to the amber or copal, as a flow accelerator and reaction accelerator.
