PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head driver of an ink jet printer in which an amplification element having a relatively low maximum current is used for current amplification of a driving signal through a simple arrangement. SOLUTION: The head driver 10 of an ink jet printer in which recording is performed by selecting a plurality of piezoelectric elements 11 through a nozzle selection switch circuit 14 at a specified print timing, amplifying a driving signal from a head drive circuit 12 through a current amplification circuit 13, and driving a corresponding nozzle to eject an ink drop is provided with a judging section 20 for calculating the number of switch sections to be turned on based on a control signal from the control section of a printer body for turning on/off each switch section of the nozzle selection switch circuit, and delivering a limit signal Half to the nozzle selection switch circuit when the calculated number of switch sections exceeds a specified number, wherein a part of switch sections is turned off regardless of a control signal SI from the printer body side when the nozzle selection switch circuit receives a control signal from the judging section.
