PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and equipment for manufacturing an H-section steel for attaining (1) the efficient operation of rolling equipment, (2) the reduction of the number of rolling mills, (3) the achievement of the manufacture of the H-section steel having a large cross section by re-heating under direct pressure rolling from a base stock of a slab and (4) the suppression of the rise of heating temperature and shortening of heating time. SOLUTION: In a method of manufacturing the H-section steel, the slab 7 made by continuous casting is taken as a base stock, dog-bone-shaped flanges are formed in the width end parts of the slab by rough rolling the slab after heating, the slab is made into the H-section steel having a large cross section by universal finish rolling succeeding intermediate rolling in which rough universal rolling and edger rolling are repeated, and sawing, cooling, straightening and inspection are successively performed. The rough rolling is interrupted in an intermediate stage and a process for re-heating an interrupted product 8 having a rough H-section is successively performed to a plurality of base stocks and, after the completion of reheating of a 1st product having a rough H-section, the rough rolling on and after the interruption and the stages on and after that are started.
