PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To clarify the mechanism of adventive root differentiation in a plant. SOLUTION: A method for creating a plant whose rooting is inhibited is characterized by inhibiting the expression of a cinnamate 4-hydroxylase gene in the plant. A method for specifying a site to be differentiated to a root in the future is characterized by preparing a cut tissue piece of the plant and then specifying the site to be differentiated to the root in the future on the cut piece, while using the expression of the cinnamate 4-hydroxylase gene as an indicator.
