<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide salted herring roe, lightly salted herring roe, or seasoned herring roe which can be produced in a shortened time, has a salt concentration and a taste uniformly, and does not cause a trouble, when cooked or dished up. <P>SOLUTION: The salted herring roe sliced in the longitudinal direction. The lightly salted herring roe is obtained by desalting the salted herring roe sliced in the longitudinal direction. The seasoned salted herring roe is obtained by desalting the salted herring roe sliced in the longitudinal direction and then seasoning the desalted herring roe. The method for producing the salted herring roe has a cutting process for slicing the salted herring roe in the longitudinal direction. The method for producing the lightly salted herring roe has a cutting process for slicing the salted herring roe in the longitudinal direction and a process for desalting the sliced salted herring roe.
