PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a waste treatment apparatus capable of detecting the water content of a base material in a treating vessel by using a humidity sensor. SOLUTION: The waste treatment apparatus has a treating tank 1 for housing the base material and waste, a treating tank temperature controller 7, an air suction pipe 2, an exhaust pipe 3, an exhausting means 6, stirring means 4, 5 for stirring the base material and the waste and a humidity sensor provided at least in one place of the treating tank 1, the air suction pipe 2 and the exhaust pipe 3. The water content of the base material is obtained based on a result detected by measuring the increase of humidity in the treating tank 1 with the humidity sensor when prescribed time is elapsed after the inside of the treating tank 1 is changed once to have a prescribed low humidity by the exhaust means 6 and after that, the exhaust is stopped.
