The invention relates to a connector and connector system between a first substrate (<HIL><PDAT>1</BOLD><PDAT>) which may be, for example, a back plane with a male connector (<HIL><PDAT>2</BOLD><PDAT>), and a second substrate (<HIL><PDAT>3</BOLD><PDAT>) on which a corresponding female connector (<HIL><PDAT>4</BOLD><PDAT>) is mounted. The guide pin (<HIL><PDAT>6</BOLD><PDAT>) is clampingly retained in coding box (<HIL><PDAT>8</BOLD><PDAT>) via a spring contact (<HIL><PDAT>10</BOLD><PDAT>).</PTEXT>With short centering pins, centering of the guide pin (<HIL><PDAT>6</BOLD><PDAT>) in coding box (<HIL><PDAT>8</BOLD><PDAT>) takes place by the cooperation of coding key (<HIL><PDAT>7</BOLD><PDAT>) and complementary coding key (<HIL><PDAT>11</BOLD><PDAT>). For avoiding damage to the spring contact (<HIL><PDAT>10</BOLD><PDAT>) in coding box (<HIL><PDAT>8</BOLD><PDAT>) in case of longer guide pins, the invention provides for the insertion of an additional centering member (<HIL><PDAT>12</BOLD><PDAT>) in the coding box (<HIL><PDAT>8</BOLD><PDAT>) between the complementary coding key (<HIL><PDAT>11</BOLD><PDAT>) and the spring contact (<HIL><PDAT>10</BOLD><PDAT>).</PTEXT>
