PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent variation in treating efficiency caused by the change of a water temperature, the deterioration of electrodes, etc., the abnormal overheating of the electrodes caused by a water shortage, and the breakage of a power source circuit 13 caused by a short circuit between the electrodes, when operating a water treating apparatus 1 for applying a direct current to water through an electrode pair 110 and electrolyzing the water. SOLUTION: When the water temperature is changed, a current value is corrected on the basis of a measured result by a temperature sensor S2. The deterioration of the electrodes is detected from a measured result by a current sensor S9. When the abnormal overheating of the electrodes occurs, the state is detected by a temperature sensor S6, and energization is interrupted. When the short circuit occurs between the electrodes, energization is interrupted by the overcurrent protection function of a power source circuit 13 to protect the circuit, and the short circuit is detected from the measured result of the current sensor S9.
