A fuel injector (<HIL><PDAT>1<PDAT>), especially an injector for fuel injection systems of internal combustion engines (<HIL><PDAT>51<PDAT>), has a piezoelectric or magnetostrictive actuator (<HIL><PDAT>14<PDAT>), a valve-closure member (<HIL><PDAT>8<PDAT>) that is actuated by an actuator (<HIL><PDAT>14<PDAT>) using a valve needle (<HIL><PDAT>9<PDAT>), the valve-closure member cooperating with a valve seat surface (<HIL><PDAT>7<PDAT>) to form a sealing seat, and having at least one spray-discharge opening (<HIL><PDAT>10, 11<PDAT>) that is sealed by the sealing seat. In this context, the valve seat surface (<HIL><PDAT>7<PDAT>) and/or the valve-closure member (<HIL><PDAT>8<PDAT>) has partial areas (<HIL><PDAT>30<HIL><PDAT>a, <HIL><PDAT>30<HIL><PDAT>b<PDAT>) that are arranged so as to be offset on the circumference, the partial areas throttling a fuel flow to differing extents as a function of a stroke of the valve needle (<HIL><PDAT>9<PDAT>).</PTEXT>
