Data coding method for definition of a window (14) in a video image (13) in which a coding impulse (61) is transmitted by a first video signal (R) from R, G and B video signals transmitted by a CRT monitor, the said code impulse being transmitted within a time window associated with a given frame line and having a temporal width (T) that corresponds to the width of the window in the said video image. The invention also relates to a corresponding coding device, decoding method and decoding device.
