METHOD FOR REALLOCATING DEFECT SECTOR, AND ACCESSING DEFECT SECTOR APPROPRIATE FOR REALLOCATION

PURPOSE: A defect sector reallocation and appropriate access method is provided to minimize sector search time for preventing a data process delay in processing a reallocated defect generated when a hard disk drive is being used. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises several steps. A target sector is read(S902). It is checked whether there exists an error at the target sector(S904). If there exists an error at the target sector, it is checked whether the stored data is recoverable(S906). If the stored data is recoverable, it is checked whether the area from the next sector to a spare sector is recordable(S908). If the stored data is not recoverable or the sectors are not recordable, an error process routine is called and performed(S918). Otherwise, the data from the target sector to the final sector is read and stored at a buffer(S910). Sector pulse data read from a slip list is modified, and the pulse of the defect sector stored at a RAM is deleted(S912). The data stored at the buffer is recorded at the area from the next to the spare sector(S914). Then, the sector pulse data modified in the step S912 is recorded at the reallocation list(S916).
