PURPOSE:To perform a continuous printing by conducting a ribbon replacement without informing a ribbon end condition to an application software at the occurrence of a ribbon end. CONSTITUTION:An application software part 1 outputs characters to a printer using a printer output function of a personal computer system software part 2. The software part 2 outputs characters to a printer control part 4 through a printer I/F 3. The printer control part 4 controls a printer mechanism part 6 to print characters on paper. If a ribbon end occurs in this mechanism, a ribbon end detection part 5 detects the ribbon end and informs it to the control part 4. If at the occurrence of a ribbon end a ribbon is replaced and a select switch 7 is depressed, a printer printing processing is continued without informing the occurrence of the ribbon end to the software part 1. If the select switch 7 is depressed without replacing the ribbon, the ribbon end condition is informed to the software part 1, and the processing thereafter is controlled by the software part 1. In this manner, if the software part 1 has no continuous printing function at a ribbon end, a continuous printing can be performed at the ribbon end. |
