<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine translation device and a machine translation method that adjust and change translation or polite expression corresponding to the intimacy of a dialogue obtained by analyzing the content of input text. <P>SOLUTION: The machine translation device for translating a first language into a second language has a language input part for inputting paragraph information of the first language, a language analyzing part 11 for calculating and outputting the degree of a prescribed inclination of the paragraph information of the first language, such as the intimacy of a dialogue, a language transforming part 12 for transforming the paragraph information of the first language into paragraph information of the second language using dictionary information, and a language adjusting part 13 for adjusting to make the transformed paragraph information of the second language reflect the above adjusting intimacy value.
