PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydraulic control device for an automatic transmission capable of easily controlling, in lockup state, the flow of oil to a torque converter having a different flow passage resistance. SOLUTION: A lockup control valve 21 supplies oil to a lockup clutch L/U and, in the lockup state, supplies oil to the torque converter. In the lockup off state, oil is led to supply to the torque converter through a first branched flow passage 39a and then supplied to an oil cooler 37. In the lockup state, oil is led through a second branched flow passage 39, and discharged directly to the oil cooler 37 without passing through the torque converter. A second orifice 41 installed, in the second branched flow passage 39b is set to a flow passage area smaller than that of a first orifice 40 installed in the first branched flow passage 39a.
