This invention is a dispenser (1) for a transfer adhesive. The dispenser is less expensive to manufacture than comparable dispensers of the prior art, because it uses a single reel to perform the functions previously performed by two separate elements. A supply reel (3) feeds a transfer adhesive tape (7) to a take-up reel (5), which also acts as an applicator roller. The supply and take-up reels (3, 5) are connected together such that rotation of one causes rotation of the other. The user holds the dispenser (1) so that the take-up reel (5) presses firmly against the surface onto which the adhesive (7) is to be applied. As the dispenser (1) is moved along that surface, the take-up reel (5) rotates due to friction, depositing adhesive (7) and causing the supply reel (3) to deliver more tape (7). The take-up and supply reels (3, 5) can be connected by gears (29, 31) or by a friction drive (48). If gears are used, they can be of a modified form which allows the take-up reel (5) to drive the supply reel (3) in only one direction. In another embodiment, a pinion gear (174) or a one-way pin (156) allow the supply reel (3) to rotate in only one direction. Thus, if the user accidentally moves the take-up reel (5) in the wrong direction, the supply reel (3) will not create unwanted slack in the tape (7). In all embodiments, it is preferred to use a slip clutch (15) to compensate for the differences in speeds of rotation of the take-up and supply reels (3, 5). |
