PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent plastic optical fiber having the theoretical numerical aperture of around 0.5 and in particular, having good balance in heat resistance, flexing resistance and bending resistance characteristics. SOLUTION: The plastic optical fiber has a core comprising a (co)polymer essentially comprising methylmethacrylate, a first clad comprising aα- fluoroacrylate (co)polymer and a second clad comprising a copolymer containing 10 to 26 wt.% hexafluoropropylene, 35 to 70 wt.% tetrafluoroethylene and 14 to 45 wt.% vinylidene fluoride and has 0.51 to 0.56 theoretical numerical aperture.
