PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rotary electric machine capable of reducing uneven cooling of the coil. SOLUTION: This rotary electric machine is formed by winding a coil 3 around a teeth 2a of a stator core 2, storing the coil 3 wound around a slot 24 formed between the adjacent teeth 2a, and closing an opening in the slot 24 to form a refrigerant passage 24a inside the slot 24. The cross-sectional area of the refrigerant passage are reduced more, the farther downstream side it is. By increasing the thicknesses of an insulator 5, which is disposed between the coil 3 and the teeth 2a and a refrigerant sealing plate 4 for closing the slot 24 the farther downstream side it is of the refrigerant passage 24a, the cross-sectional area of the refrigerant passage 24a is changed.
