PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To always record and reproduce a message in an optimum set state without needing a complex operation by a user in communication equipment provided with a recording and reproducing function. SOLUTION: When a main control part 11 determines that a telephone number coinciding with a telephone number received by an information receiving part 7 and included in sender information coming from a communication line 1 is stored in a storing part 9, a recording level in a recording and reproducing part 5 is set on the basis of a recording level stored in the storing part 9 corresponding to the telephone number.
