PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure sufficient security by surely detecting a disconnection or short circuit by a schemed action. SOLUTION: This theft detecting cable 2 is used to fasten an object of theft detection to a structure, and comprises a pair of flexible signal lines 24 and 25 the tip parts of which are connected by a prescribed resistor 28. The tip of the theft detecting cable 2 is engaged to a casing 14 fixed to the object of theft detection through an engaging and disengaging means 15. The base end part of the theft detecting cable 2 is connected to a theft monitoring part 12. The theft monitoring part 12 determines the presence of disconnection and short circuit of the theft detecting cable 2 based on the voltage applied to the signal lines 24 and 25, and outputs an abnormality when the presence of disconnection or short circuit is determined.
