PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress an increase in axial dimension of an automatic transmission even if a band brake is replaced with a multi-disk brake by fitting two servo-pistons to each other. SOLUTION: Two multi-stage brakes LR/B and 2.6/B are disposed on the inner periphery of a transmission case 6 adjacent to each other in axial direction and so as to be engaged with each other by a thrust from an axial same side (right side shown in the figure). The servo-pistons 19 and 21 for bringing these brakes into an engaged state are disposed on the brake LR/B side coaxially with each other. The servo-piston 19 related to the brake 2.6/B is slidably fitted to the transmission case 6, and the servo-piston 21 related to the brake LR/B is disposed on the inner peripheral side of the servo-piston 19.
