PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shock absorber for a vehicle equipped with a damping device of new structure wherein effectively vibration transmission from the wheel side to the body side in the suspension mechanism is reduced with simple structure. SOLUTION: The damping device 18 is constituted that an independent mass member 44 which is non-adhesive and independently displaceable on a cylinder 24 or a piston rod 26 of the shock absorber 10 for a vehicle and the independent mass member 44 is elastically contacted to the cylinder 24 or the piston rod 26 repeatedly.
