PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high pressure gas generating device capable of executing bypass control to minimize ON-OFF operation of a high pressure compressor. SOLUTION: In this high pressure gas generating device, a high pressure compressor is provided, with a suction tube connected on the suction side, and a discharge tube on the discharge side, so that gas is sucked from the suction tube, and that high pressure gas compressed to high pressure by the high pressure compressor is discharged from the discharge tube. A pressure regulating valve is provided on the suction tube, and a bypass tube connecting the suction tube on the inlet side of the pressure regulating valve to the discharge tube is provided. Discharge gas from the high pressure compressor can thus be introduced to the suction tube in bypass operation. Pressure of the discharge gas from the bypass tube is regulated by the pressure regulating valve to be decompressed. Thus pressure added to the suction side of the high pressure compressor gets low. Damage to the high pressure compressor can be minimized while bypass operation can be executed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
