<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form a color image onto a recording medium in a short period of time, in an image forming apparatus that forms color images on both sides of a recording medium. <P>SOLUTION: Toner images of different colors are formed on image carriers 2Y, 2M, 2C, and 2BK and a first image is obtained by transferring the toner images onto a first intermediate transfer body 3 constituted of an endless belt. The first image is further transferred to a second transfer body 15 constituted of an endless belt and subsequently a second image is formed from toner images, transferred to the corresponding image carriers 2Y, 2M, 2C, and 2BK, onto the first intermediate transfer body 3.
