PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a camera which is excellent in operability by easily allocating the various kinds of operation items without increasing the number of switches. SOLUTION: An operation signal with regard to the photographing operation of the camera is detected by using an electrostatic pad. An electric signal outputted by the electrostatic pad corresponding to the movement of the finger of a photographer is converted into the operation signal with regard to the photographing operation by an operation signal generating means, so that processing corresponding to the content is performed by a photographing operation performing means in accordance with the operation signal. The direction of the movement of the finger may be set by not only sliding movement on the surface of the electrostatic pad but also pressing movement in a perpendicular direction.
