PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the rolling of the upper portion of a reciprocating balancer 3 and to improve a damping function. SOLUTION: In an engine with the reciprocating balancer in which the reciprocating balancer 3 is arranged below a crankshaft 1, a rectilinear guide 5 which guides the reciprocating balancer 3 for reciprocating movement is provided on the bottom 4 of a crankcase, the reciprocating balancer 3 is connected to the crankshaft 1 via an interlocking arm 6 so as to interlock with the crankshaft, and the reciprocating balancer 3 is reciprocated synchronously with the reciprocating movement of a piston 7 along the direction of the reciprocating movement thereof, the lower portion of the reciprocating balancer 3 is guided by rectilinear guides 5a, 5b on the bottom 4 of the crankcase and the upper portion of the reciprocating balancer 3 is guided by upper rectilinear guides 13a, 13b.
