PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase an electrostatic capacity per capacitor unit volume or unit weight while maintaining characteristics of an electric double layer capacitor of which the durability in a charging/discharging cycle is strong, the life is long, the charging/discharging of large currents is possible, and the working temperature range is wide. SOLUTION: In an electric double layer capacitor using electric double layers where positive and negative charges are faced to each other at an extremely short distance on the boundary face of a solid and a liquid, the distribution of a capacitor solid volume or weight is optimized in the two electric double layers formed on its + side and -side solid surfaces.
