<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell suppressing drop in performance as a whole of an electrolyte membrane, and preventing electrical breakdown of the electrolyte membrane caused by creep, and preventing a cross leakage. <P>SOLUTION: (1) The fuel cell in which a part of an MEA pressing surface of an MEA pressing part of a separator 18 of a solid polymer fuel cell is composed of an insulating material 29. (2) The solid polymer electrolyte fuel cell in which the separator is arranged on both sides of the MEA, and the insulating material 29 passing through the MEA and supporting the separators on both sides of the MEA is installed between the separators on both sides of the MEA. (3) The insulating material 29 is formed at the tip of the projection of the separator and comes in the inside of the MEA in a cell mounting state.
