<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wavelength multiplex communication system, capable of performing normal wavelength multiplex communication, making insertion losses uniform, and reducing cost of the overall system. <P>SOLUTION: In this system, first and second multiplexer-demultiplexers which face each other are connected by an optical fiber cable. Wavelength filters are cascaded to the first multiplexer-demultiplexer in the order, from λ4 through λ2, and wavelength filters are cascaded to the second multiplexer-demultiplexer in the order reverse to that in the first case, i.e., from λ1 through λ3. In each multiplexer-demultiplexer, a light-receiving section is connected to the former filters near the cable, and a light-transmitting section is connected to the latter filters. With this constitution, optical signals transmitted between the first and second multiplexer-demultiplexers are relayed by almost the same number of wavelength filters, and thus the insertion losses influenced by transmission of the optical signal through the wavelength filters can be made uniform. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
