<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for purifying an astaxanthin free body in a shape utilizable to a food by using an ester body of the astaxanthin. <P>SOLUTION: Feed containing astaxanthins is fed to a chicken to accumulate the astaxanthin free body formed from the astaxanthins by the metabolic action in the inside of the body of the chicken, in the yolk of an egg. The astaxanthin free body is extracted from the yolk and purified.
