PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a silver halide emulsion having high sensitivity and low fog, ensuring a small variation of sensitivity due to difference in humidity conditions in exposure, and having excellent wet wear resistance. SOLUTION: The silver halide emulsion has been chemically sensitized with a compound represented by formula (1) wherein Ch is S, Se or Te; A is O, S, Se, Te or NR<SP>4</SP>; R<SP>1</SP>-R<SP>4</SP>are each H or a substituent; R<SP>3</SP>, together with R<SP>1</SP>or R<SP>2</SP>, may form a 5- to 7-membered cyclic structure; and M is H or a cation.
