PURPOSE: An apparatus for suppressing an image signal is provided to reduce the power consumption with maintaining the minimum guaranteed characteristics compensation performance by stopping the accommodation operation. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for suppressing an image signal includes an antenna(1), an orthogonal detector(2) provided with a first multiplier(21) and a second multiplier(23), a first and a second analog/digital converters(3a,3b), a complex mixer(5), a first characteristics compensation control block(7), a first characteristics compensator(8) and a second detector(9). The apparatus for suppressing an image signal converts the frequency of the input signal represented by a real signal or a complex signal by using a local signal represented by the complex signal and suppresses the image frequency prevention signal generated at the output of the frequency converting means by using the compensation process using the accommodation signal process. The apparatus for suppressing an image signal is capable of controlling the switching operation for the accommodation operation and stopping operation of the adaptation signal processes.
