PURPOSE: A method for selectively removing disodium terephthalate from wastewater that is generated from alkali finishing process of polyethylene terephthalate textile, thereby recycling such useful sources as NaOH, ethylene glycol and phosphate-based metal ion blockade in the wastewater. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of filtering a wastewater generated from alkali finishing process of polyethylene terephthalate textile to remove non-soluble materials therefrom; compulsively precipitating disodium terephthalate by adding 3 to 33 wt.% of sodium hydroxide to the filtrate of the first filter at 20 to 95 deg.C; filtering the wastewater again to separate disodium terephthalate in the form of cake; and recycling the wastewater after removal of disodium terephthalate.
