<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for pedestrian recognition which can precisely recognize a pedestrian without increasing memory capacity. <P>SOLUTION: A CCD camera picks up an image of the front side or rear side of a vehicle including an object such as a pedestrian and a CPU processes the actually obtained picked-up image to extract moving vectors at respective points of the object (S1); and a parametric specific space method is applied to horizontal vectors of the extracted moving vectors at the respective points to project them on a specific space (S2), and an object projection point projected on the specific space is compared with a reference curve stored in a memory to decide whether the object projection point approximates the reference curve (S3). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
