PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To secure the light beam in a portion associated with image forming in a polygon mirror and to efficiently shield reflected light from a surface not associated with an image. SOLUTION: A luminous flux 95 shown by hatching out of a luminous flux made incident on the polygon mirror 93 by an incidence optical system is made incident on an Fθlens, and is reflected by a cylindrical mirror not shown in a figure, so as to form a spot on an image plane, and scanning is performed by the rotation of the polygon mirror. The luminous flux made incident on the polygon mirror 93 is made larger than the width of polygon facets, thereby a luminous flux reflected by an adjacent facet exists. Light shielding members 94 and 97 are arranged in a certain determined range between the fθlens and the polygon mirror facet so as to shield the luminous flux, so that unnecessary flare light is cut.
