PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous resin dispersion having a relatively low acid value and showing high viscosity and good structural viscosity after neutralization with an alkali, and a method of producing the dispersion. SOLUTION: The dispersion is of a core/shell type. The core portion consists of (C) a resin of an acid value of 20 or lower and a hydroxyl number of 100 or lower formed by emulsion polymerization of (c) a polymerizable unsaturated monomer without acid and hydroxyl groups, optionally (b) a hydroxyl-containing polymerizable unsaturated monomer and optionally (a) an acid-containing polymerizable monomer. The shell portion consists of (S) a resin of an acid value of 30-150 and a hydroxyl number of 10-100 formed by emulsion polymerization of (a), (b) and (c). COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
